One of the very few sports that I find entertaining enough to watch on a semi-regular basis is MMA (the other two being Competitive Frisbee and Pickle Ball, of course). MMA’s equivalent of Michael Jordan would most likely be Russia’s 6 foot, 233lbs Fedor Emelianenko.

Fedor will also drink your milkshake.
At 33 years old Fedor’s MMA record is 30-1. His only loss came from a technicality when his opponent, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, accidently and illegally elbowed him in the face. The elbow opened up a large cut on him and seeing that this was a tournament and one fighter had to advance, Fedor was given the loss (in a rematch Fedor would win by doctor stoppage in the first round). Outside of that loss Fedor has 30 wins, 26 consecutively and six of them come off UFC Heavyweight Champions. Outside of being arguably the best of the best as far as MMA goes, he’s also somewhat of an antithesis to the UFC’s current image. For instance, in the UFC’s last Heavyweight Championship the winner, Brock Lesnar, proceed to give the crowd his middle finger, insult the UFC’s sponsor (Bud Light) along with his opponent and the informed the crowd that he “may even get on top of my wife tonight.”

Brock Lesnar relaxing.
On the other hand Fedor shakes hands, wins fights and continues on. This Saturday (Nov. 7) Fedor will be fighting the undefeated (10-0) Brett Rogers live (and free) on CBS. I haven’t heard much about CBS’s reputation as far as their MMA goes, but if you get a chance to check out the fight, I highly recommend it. Those who are turned off by the UFC’s seemingly dumbed down mentality may find it refreshing to see a true athlete and gentleman pummel another gentleman.
Here is Fedor’s fight with UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia. Many people at the time claimed that Fedor had never fought someone as tall, big and versatile as Sylvia and that he was likely to lose. You be the judge.
